The Nuns Are On The Run!
Today's drive back down the mountain from Wentworth Falls was a little different to normal. On a cold and wet Blue Mountains day it is unusual to see more than just a handful of people about - bedraggled dog walkers making their way back home or sorry looking commuters queuing for the bus. This morning however, was different!
Coming around the bend after Lawson I was surprised to see a band of yellow making its way proficiently down the grassy bank that doubles up as a pavement. Getting closer I could see through the mist that these were indeed people - and people with strange black logo's on their shirts. Wanting to find out more I headed home to "google" it, as you do!
What I had encountered was the Nuns on the Run! This plucky group of women had all donned their lycra and joggers to raise funds to build the Garvan St Vincent's Campus Cancer Centre. The nuns belong to the group "The Sisters Of Charity". and are hoping to raise $100 million to build the centre of research excellence which will be located in Darlinghurst.
The nuns are due to finish their 400KM Dubbo to Darlinghurst pilgrimage on Friday. Their website includes a picture diary and details of how you can get involved or sponsor the run. The walks founder Helen Clark was interviewed in Dubbo by the ABC when she was joined by celebrity cancer survivor and charity ambassador Delta Goodrem. A transcript of the interview is available by clicking here.
We wish them all the best.
