Michelle Robinson was born in Chicago after her parents moved there from the south. Michelle grew up in a hard working and politically active family, her father Fraser Robinson was Democratic Precinct Captain enjoying a comfortable middle class upbringing. As a bright and enthusiastic student, Michelle won a place at Princeton University where she majored in sociology with a minor in African American studies. She went on to get her Juris Doctor Degree from Harvard Law School and then began a career in law.
It was at law firm Sidley Austin that she met Barack Obama; they married in 1982 and have since had two daughters. The book portrays Michelle as ambitious, successful and driven women who was reluctant in the beginning for Barack to enter politics but then supported and campaigned alongside him.
Being in the right place at the right time may have played a small part in the meteoric rise of this family but it was hard work, talent and determination that opened up the door. The podcast is available here: Michelle Obama, A Biography and was broadcast on Radio 2GB on Monday 9th March 2009.
